“Wuthering Heights”
Come undone.
Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights is a bold, sensual reimagining of Emily Brontë’s 1847 literary classic, reframed as a Gothic psychological drama charged with obsession, desire, and cruelty. Written and directed by Fennell (Promising Young Woman, Saltburn), the film stars Margot Robbie as the fiercely volatile Catherine Earnshaw and Jacob Elordi as the brooding, obsessive Heathcliff—two lovers bound by passion and vengeance across class, time, and trauma.
Shot on 35mm VistaVision in the Yorkshire Dales, with cinematography by Academy Award–winner Linus Sandgren (La La Land), the film leans heavily into the wildness of Brontë’s landscape and the raw psychology of its characters. Fennell’s adaptation has already prompted conversation around interpretation, fidelity, and representation—marking it as not just another retelling, but a provocative cultural event.
