Winner of the Special Jury Prize at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and nominated for Best International Feature Film at the 97th Academy Awards, The Seed of the Sacred Fig is an unflinching political drama that has captivated audiences worldwide. Directed by acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof, the film blends gripping storytelling with real-life footage from the 2022–2023 protests in Iran, creating one of the most urgent and powerful films of the year.

Set in Tehran, the film follows Iman, a devout judge newly appointed to the Revolutionary Court, where he is expected to sign off on countless death sentences without question. As nationwide protests erupt following the death of a young woman, Iman’s world spirals into paranoia and fear. When his government-issued handgun disappears from his home, he begins to suspect his wife and daughters of betrayal—leading to a chilling descent into authoritarian control within his own family.

Praised as a “devastating and vital document of modern Iran” (Screen Daily), the film received a 12-minute standing ovation at Cannes and was named the Best International Film of 2024 by the National Board of Review. It also earned nominations for Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language at the Golden Globes and Best Film Not in the English Language at the BAFTAs.
