About the film: The Hours is a psychological drama following three women across different time periods, each profoundly impacted by Virginia Woolf’s novel Mrs. Dalloway. In 1920s England, Woolf (Nicole Kidman) confronts her own mental health struggles while writing the novel. In 1951 California, Laura Brown (Julianne Moore), a suburban housewife, finds herself trapped in an unfulfilling life, seeking solace in Woolf’s work. And in 2001 New York City, Clarissa Vaughan (Meryl Streep) organizes a celebration for her close friend Richard (Ed Harris), a poet living with AIDS, as she mirrors Woolf’s fictional protagonist.
Directed by Stephen Daldry, The Hours earned critical acclaim and nine Academy Award nominations, with Nicole Kidman winning Best Actress for her portrayal of Woolf. This moving and introspective film explores the intricate ties between literature, identity, and the choices that shape our lives.
