Directed by Óliver Laxe and co-written with Santiago Fillol, Sirāt is a hypnotic, apocalyptic road drama that blends existential cinema with rave culture and war-time allegory. Starring Sergi López, the film follows a father, Luis, who journeys into the deserts of southern Morocco with his young son in search of his missing daughter. Joining a tight-knit group of European ravers traveling deeper into the Sahara for an underground party, their search becomes a harrowing odyssey as geopolitical conflict escalates into a world-war-scale catastrophe. What begins as a desperate familial quest transforms into a visceral survival story—one that confronts grief, faith, collective identity, and the thin line between ecstasy and annihilation.

Premiering in Competition at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, Sirāt won the Jury Prize and quickly emerged as one of the most talked-about films of the year, topping IndieWire’s Cannes Critics Survey. It went on to earn eleven nominations at the Goya Awards, including Best Film and Best Director, and received Academy Award nominations for Best International Feature Film and Best Sound at the 98th Oscars. The film was widely celebrated across the awards circuit, winning major honors including the Gold Hugo at the Chicago International Film Festival, Best Foreign Language Film from the Toronto Film Critics Association, and multiple European Film Awards for its cinematography, sound design, editing, and production design. Kangding Ray’s pulsating electronic score and Mauro Herce’s Super 16mm cinematography were particularly acclaimed.
