Keith Haring: Street Art Boy

Event •
Dec 2

International art sensation Keith Haring blazed a trail through the legendary art scene of 1980s New York and revolutionized the worlds of pop culture and fine art. In celebration of featured exhibition Keith Haring: Radiant Vision, join the CMA at The Nick for a film screening of documentary Keith Haring: Street Art Boy. With previously unheard interviews forming the narrative, this fascinating film is the definitive story of the artist in his own words.

Street Art Boy includes exclusive, unprecedented access to the Haring Foundation’s archives, capturing the wild, creative energy behind some of the most recognizable art of the past 50 years. Following his AIDS diagnosis, Haring asked writer and art critic John Gruen to write his biography. For five days in the summer of 1989, he gave Gruen the story of his life in intimate and candid detail, and these interviews are featured in the film. Haring’s closest friends, family and collaborators — from the sleepy Pennsylvania of his youth to the mythic clubs of gay New York — share their revelatory encounters with the life-affirming artist, touching poignantly on the HIV/AIDS crisis.

Following the screening, members of the CMA’s Visitor Experience team join Nick staff to discuss Haring’s life and legacy, particularly their experiences working in the exhibition galleries and how his work has impacted visitors. $12 / $9 for CMA and Nick members
