A Comedy Of Sexual Disorientation.

Join the Harriet Hancock LGBT Center and The Nickelodeon Theater for a Special Screening of But I’m a Cheerleader!

In response to the City of Columbia’s repeal of the ban on conversion therapy this past June, the Harriet Hancock LGBT Center invites you to an impactful evening highlighting community, education, and important conversation.

Beginning with a 30 minute panel discussion, the evening will feature local experts and advocates who will discuss the ongoing harm of conversion therapy, and the continued lack of protections against it in Columbia, SC. Following the panel discussion there will be a screening of the classic, queer comedy, But I’m a Cheerleader.

We hope to see you for an important night of building community and resilience with one another!

About the film

Megan is an all-American girl. She’s a cheerleader and has a boyfriend, but she doesn’t like kissing him very much, and she’s pretty tactile with her cheerleader friends, and she only has pictures of girls up in her locker. Her parents and friends conclude that she *must* be gay and send her off to “sexual redirection” school, full of admittedly homosexual misfits, where she can learn how to be straight. Will Megan be turned around to successful heterosexuality, or will she succumb to her love for the beautiful Graham?
