Intro to Screenwriting

Description: This is an introductory course in the techniques for writing narrative screenplays.  The course techniques and guidance can be applied to the writing of many other film forms such as documentary, industrial, commercial, on-line applications and short narrative films. The class will include a study of the screenplay form, structure and writing, including developing stories that will provide a foundation for continued work. Beginning with the creation of compelling characters then setting them in cinematic action in proper industry formatted scenes leading to a completed screenplay. Students will write at least one expository (first act) scene along with character descriptions and a complete story synopsis.

Materials: Students will need to be IT literate as class materials will be delivered via an on-line forum and you will be asked to use either CELTX screenwriting software ( or another freely accessible similar software. Please download the software prior to the first class. Please arrive prepared to take notes and ready to discuss your work in-progress or goals for the course. You will be required to sign a copyright privacy agreement prior to the start of this course to protect the intellectual property of all attendees.
