Finding Your Voice, Finding Your Audience
On September 15th, creators of all kinds are invited to Finding Your Voice, Finding Your Audience: A Workshop for Creators, featuring a panel discussion with acclaimed Writers/Filmmakers/Media Creators Jan Millsapps and Maurice Lindsay. This free workshop will explore the journeys these creators have taken in finding their artistic voice and how it has helped them produce ‘indie’ projects across various media formats, reaching audiences around the world.
The discussion will also cover the unique collaborations and funding opportunities that have been pivotal in the success of their works. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the challenges and triumphs of the independent creative process.
About the Panelists:
Jan Millsapps is a trailblazing digital filmmaker, early web innovator, and accomplished writer with a diverse portfolio that spans from domestic violence to global terrorism. As a professor emerita of cinema at San Francisco State University and former professor at the University of South Carolina, Jan is returning to Columbia for a special retrospective screening of her works at The Nick on Sept. 16th. The evening will highlight her recent project Madame Mars: Women and the Quest for Worlds Beyond, alongside select films created during her time in South Carolina and short films by her former USC Media Arts students.
Maurice Lindsay, also known as MoReese Madu, is a best-selling author and award-winning filmmaker from Columbia, SC. Maurice’s work, which draws from Black history, spirituality, and nature, aims to empower and inspire others through storytelling. A revolutionary voice, Maurice’s acclaimed blog TruthOverTradition.com and his published works, including Up From Religion and The Perceptionist, have established him as a prominent figure in modern Black literature and filmmaking.
This free event promises to offer valuable insights and inspiration for creators of all levels, from seasoned professionals to emerging talents.
