Headed to TIFF

I have the amazing opportunity to represent the Nickelodeon Theatre at Toronto International Film Festival this year. I’m going to be updating the Nick blog periodically while I’m traveling and watching some of the films that we may be programming later this year and next.

So, I’m sitting in the Columbia Metropolitan airport at 6:45am. I’ve been looking at the film schedule for a little over a week and it’s still pretty overwhelming. It’s the first film festival like this I’ve attended I don’t really know what to expect. Here’s what I know:

  • I will be in the Press & Industry screenings, so the likelihood of running into famous people isn’t terribly high.
  • The schedule is jam packed and as far as I can tell none of the films play twice, so I’m going to have to strategize every day
  • I cannot emphasize enough how many films there are to see! Here’s a photo of the first full day of films for P&I. The schedule starts at 8:00am and ends after midnight.

With the reading I’ve done I have a few films that I’m very excited to see. My goal is to write quick reviews (with no spoilers obvs) of the films I see that leave me with something to write about. We’ll see how that goes! Ok, so my pre-festival list:

Loving by Jeff Nichols

Elle by Paul Verhoeven

Frantz by François Ozon

Colossal Nacho Vigalondo

Santa & Andres by Carlos Lechuga

Queen of Katwe by Mira Nair

The Skyjacker’s Tale by Jamie Kastner

Moonlight by Barry Jenkins

Salt and Fire by Werner Herzog

Abacus: Small Enough to Jail by Steve James

There are so many more on my list, including some shorts programs and a screening of Transparent Season 3 with Jill Soloway! So check back on the blog for my updates. You can tweet at me while I’m at TIFF at @kristinmorris. About to board now!
