Superman: The Movie (1978)
University of South Carolina Libraries and the Nickelodeon Theatre are offering a free screening of Superman: The Movie (1978), with an all-star cast including Christopher Reeve, Marlon Brando, Gene Hackman, Margot Kidder and more.
Based on the DC Comics character who first appeared in Action Comics #1 in 1938, Superman is a mainstay in pop culture today around the world.
Superman: The Movie is shown as a component of UofSC Libraries’ Four Color Fantasies exhibit, which showcases the best of the 180,000 item comic book collection donated by Gary Lee Watson.
The massive collection includes 143,000 unique comic books, 20,000 magazines, 15,000 paperbacks and 5,000 pulp publications.
Open through December 20, Four Color Fantasies features rare comics including Avengers #1, Star Trek #1, The Brave and the Bold #28, which is the first appearance of the Justice League of America—Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, Aquaman and the Martian Manhunter—and comics with the first single appearances of the Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, the Hulk, Spiderman, the Black Panther, Vixen, and Hal Jordan as the Green Lantern.
Four Color Fantasies is on exhibit at Hollings Library now.
