With Denis there's always more than meets the prism of snap judgements. Let the movie mess with your head.
— Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
Death row prisoners are given a second chance by the government as they embark on a mission to deep space to extract rotational energy from a black hole. More advanced social complexes are at play as the ship’s onboard doctor, Dr. Dibs (Juliette Binoche), runs unethical experiments on the inmates; conflict between the whole crew slowly begins to brew. The sole survivor of the resulting turmoil, Monte (Robert Pattinson), struggles to maintain what is left of his humanity as he raises his daughter, drifting ever closer to the black hole in the desolate, doomed vessel.
